Day 20. Vintage Lace

Day 20.

Old World Haberdashery located inside the Chapel Street Bazaar at 217 Chapel St in Prahran.

A treasure chest in shop form, full to overflowing with vintage lace, ribbons and trims galore including the piece of pink lace shown below.

The SKIMPY is made from a Liberty print called Mitsi which I found at Luccello with the vintage lace added to both the front and back; a HOW TO has been included below.  The SKIMPY, in Australian size 12 (US 8), is now available from my Etsy shop.  The sewing pattern is also available.

1. With right side of fabric facing wrong side of lace stitch the lace across the front and back of the knicker inside the seam allowance.

2. Attach the knicker elastic as normal treating the lace and fabric as one A HOW TO attached knicker elastic can be found right here.

3. Trim away the excess lace taking care not to cut the knicker elastic before completing your second row of zig-zag stitching.

4. Once complete the upper leg opening should look like this.  You can now go ahead and attach the waistband as normal.

I cut my waistband 7cm wide, so with 1cm seam allowances this gave me a finished width of 2.5cm.  A line of stitching 1.25cm below the top edge reduced the width of the elastic casing and created the top frill.
